Afghan Raiders "Future Thinkers/Solid Gold EP" (Badical Beats)

Wooooooo!!!! Let'sgodancing! Or driving, cooking, screwing, whatever. Powerful, poppy, pushy, perfect.

The first song on this 4-track EP is "Future Thinkers", and is my favorite. (Glad they shoved it to the front of the line, because the remixes by Nite Cells and The Slips that show up later on the disc are just whatevs, nothing to write a blog about.) The bass is sweet. A little bumpy, but just enough to save us from tack. This is a song that I'll have stuck in my head and will want to sing it aloud, but I'll probably never really know the words.

*Side note: http://www.pretenders.org/lybra.htm ...I had no clue that word was "sidestep."

"Solid Gold" is solid, but maybe not gold. Solid silver. These dudes claim to have been influenced by LCD Soundsystem, and I think this track is actually an homage to the band. Lyrics: "We can dance to my favorite Soundsystem song." They sound an awfully lot like them, too. That's cool, I don't blame them. If you're doing electronic music, LCDS is a high target to aim for.

The hook goes something like "If this is love, what are you waiting for?", and reminds me of that scene in "I Know What You Did Last Summer" where Jennifer Love Hewitt's boobs are exploding out of her shirt after she finds the crabs in her trunk. That's right, JLH has crabs in her trunk. Ouch. Anyhoo, this song is great. It's more mysterious and less catchy than the first, but supports my theory that Afghan Raiders should put out more than just an EP.

Release date was July of 2008, so find a copy for yourself. They're out there, somewhere.

Four Amy Grants, but don't take my word for it.
